In the Limelight: Colleen Ries

In this edition of our “In the Limelight” series, meet Colleen Ries—a Senior Director of Client Delivery at Broadleaf. Colleen leads a team of nine recruiters and talent acquisition specialists while overseeing four of Broadleaf’s RPO and MSP accounts. Her 19 years of industry expertise and ability to cultivate partnerships have allowed her to thrive in her role at Broadleaf.

A Washington state native

I’ve lived in Washington state all my life and currently reside in a suburb outside of Seattle. I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a dual degree in English and Music intending to teach high school English and eventually become a principal.

The road to Broadleaf

I taught high school for a few years, but eventually ventured into the recruiting world and haven’t looked back since. Over 18 years, I worked at two workforce solutions organizations and gained vast talent acquisition and management experience that helped prepare me for my current role at Broadleaf.

Life at Broadleaf

In 2021, I accepted a Senior Director of Delivery Director position at Broadleaf. In my role, I manage four RPO and MSP accounts and a team of nine recruiters and talent acquisition specialists. I am responsible for program deliverables, overseeing our clients’ strategic account plan and resources management, and all performance indicators and metrics. I thrive on seeing candidates—both contingent workers and direct hire employees—find a position that advances their career. No two days are the same in this industry and I’m constantly challenged and growing in my role. How I interact with clients and candidates is continuously evolving to meet the current state of the labor market.

The Broadleaf difference

The talent acquisition industry is a people business. My management and communication style, along with my personality, have been molded over time and make me well suited for success in this industry. So many people have inspired me over the years and I’m very grateful for all of the encouragement that I’ve received. In my role, I have the opportunity to inspire and encourage my team to create a positive experience with everyone they engage with throughout their day—clients, candidates, and colleagues. What makes Broadleaf different from our competitors is the team relationships at all levels within the organization. Everyone—including leadership—is very supportive and collaborative, and takes time to foster relationships and learn about each other.

A look to the future

The talent acquisition space has become very competitive over the past 10 years. Broadleaf continues to keep pace by offering a suite of technology platforms and tools along with total talent management solutions. Over the next 10+ years, I believe technology will continue to evolve allowing more automated processes and outcomes.

Life outside of Broadleaf

In the morning before work, I write or listen to music. Something that most people don’t know about me is that I’m a trained opera singer. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my two grown sons and daughter-in-law. I’m a mother, sister, auntie, and friend, and work hard to ensure I have the time I need to reenergize to be present for the people in my life that mean the most to me. In addition to music, my hobbies include reading, writing, golfing, interior decorating, and gardening. I enjoy traveling the country and meeting all kinds of people and sharing in their journey. If money or time off was no object, I would travel to Italy and Greece because their history and beauty draw me to them. Many of us have a bucket list and I’ve had the luxury of checking off many of those boxes. What a blessing!
